Strasbourg, 16/04/2023 – Today, the European Pirate party (PPEU) has elected new leadership in their Council meeting held in Strasbourg. In addition, Mikuláš Peksa has been re-elected as the Chairperson of the European Pirate Party (PPEU) for a fifth term. PPEU also adopted a motion to be more open for other like-minded political movements.
Mikuláš Peksa is a Czech Member of the European Parliament since 2019, representing the Czech Pirate Party. He was first elected as Chair of the PPEU in 2019 and has been a vocal advocate for digital rights, transparency and green transition. New vice-chairs of the Party are Veronika Murzynová who is a member of Czech Pirate Party, and Cedric Levieux, who is a member of French Pirate Party.
MEP Mikuláš Peksa, Chairperson of the PPEU, says:
“I am honoured to be re-elected as the Chair of the PPEU and I am excited to work with our new leadership team. Our long-term goal is to establish our own political fraction in the European Parliament and we will continue to work towards that goal. This mandate is a testament to the trust of our Pirate members and also a responsibility to continue advocating for our main goals outlined in our programme. I believe that our party will continue to fight for the improvement of digital rights, transparency and openness in public administration, protection of privacy and freedom of expression, as well as for a fair and sustainable future for our planet. I see my re-election also as the commitment for the European Pirate Party to enter the European Parliament elections as a united and strong force that has its place on the political map.”
Veronika Murzynová, new elected Vice-chair of the PPEU, says:
“My goal as Vice-chair is to increase our number of elected MEPs across Europe. I am confident that with our dedicated volunteers, we can achieve this goal. I know firsthand from my own extensive experience of organising and managing volunteers how incredible impact they can have on a campaign. Together, we can build a strong and unified PPEU that will resonate with voters across the continent. Let us work tirelessly to achieve our common goal and make our party a driving force for positive change in Europe.”
Cedric Levieux, new elected Vice-chair of the PPEU, says:
“My priority will be to strengthen our party’s platform and message to better resonate with voters across the continent. I believe that by focusing on the issues that matter most to our constituents – such as democracy and transparency – we can build a movement that truly represents the best interests of all Europeans. To achieve this goal, we must also focus on building a strong and inclusive party infrastructure that engages and empowers all of our members.”
The election of new leadership and the adoption of the motion to open for like-minded movements is seen as a significant step towards expanding the Pirate Party’s reach and influence across Europe. The party hopes to attract more supporters who share its values and principles of digital rights, open access, and transparency.
The PPEU is a political party that aims to promote civil liberties, transparency and direct democracy in Europe. The party is a federation of Pirate parties from across Europe and is affiliated with the Pirate Party International (PPI).
